Research Focus

CAVS is short for Chemical Analysis and Vibrational Spectroscopy. Our focus of research is the development of novel analytical techniques based on molecular spectroscopy for use in quantitative and qualitative analysis. We concentrate on emerging new technologies such as mid-IR quantum cascade lasers, waveguide technologies, particle manipulation by ultrasound, as well as performing chemical reactions and separations in micro-fluidic systems. By combining these techniques, novel analytical methodologies for the measurement of gases, liquids and solids can be developed which improve current state of the art instrumentation. These systems can be used to solve analytical chemical measurement problems in different fields extending from environmental and process monitoring to applications in medical diagnostics and life sciences.

Equipment

Scientific research at a high level also require modern laboratory equipment and suitable facilities for research and innovation. The CAVS group houses essential equipment for mid-infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, nanoscale imaging and mid-IR quantum cascade lasers (QCL) for our developments in solving analytical chemical measurement problems.

Projects

Funding plays an essential role for research groups as it provides resources and support for scientific progress. Our research group is fortunate to receive funding from the European Union (EU), our national funding agencies and industry. This enables us to conduct innovative research in the field of vibrational spectroscopy und recruit, motivated young researchers to work on scientific projects.
