Our research group attended the 12th International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy in the vibrating city of Krakow in Poland.
It was a well organized and scientifically fruitfull conference, where members of our group had the opportunity of presenting their ongoing research with oral- as well as poster presentations to an infrared spectroscopy affine audience.
With many new ideas and contacts the ICAVS 12 conference ended with a joint dinner in the famous salt mine in Krakow.
The Science days event will take place at May 25 and 26, 2023 and is a crucial component of the evaluation process at the Technical Chemistry Faculty at TU Wien, designed to provide a formal platform for faculty groups to showcase their achievements and plans to the evaluation board and external experts.
This 2 day event will feature structured presentations by faculty group leaders and will offer a forum for commentary/questions by the International Advisory Board (IAB), Evaluation Board (EB), Teaching Advisory Board as well as the Faculty members.
The Science Days event will be held in a hybrid format, featuring live broadcasting of the group presentations to the broader audience (incl. the Faculty); as well as an integrated Zoom session for IAB members who cannot attend in person. The Zoom link will be provided at the bottom of the page.
Each presenting group (out of 8 this year) will be allocated a one-hour time slot, which will include a 30-minute presentation and a 30-minute discussion period with both the in-room (i.e. boards) and online audience. Additionally, during the poster sessions, senior group members will present overview posters highlighting different areas of the group’s research. This part of the event will, however, be only available on-site.

Elizandra Sehn obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from Universidade Estadual de Maringá in 2009. She is an Associate Professor at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR). Starting from March 2023 till February 2024, she joins the CAVS group at TU Wien as Postdoctoral Researcher. She has experience in Photothermal Lens and Photoacoustic Spectroscopy applied in biological systems.
Gustavo V. B. Lukasievicz received a B.Sc. (2009), a master’s degree (2011), and Ph.D. in Physics (2014) from Universidade Estadual de Maringá in Brazil. In July 2014, he took the position of Assistant Professor of Physics at the Universidade Tecnológica Federal do Paraná (UTFPR), Medianeira campus. He has experience in condensed matter physics, focusing on the theoretical and experimental development of photothermal techniques to study the thermal, optical, and mechanical properties of non-crystalline solids and liquids.
Starting from March 2023 till February 2024, he joined the CAVS group at TU Wien as Postdoctoral Researcher, working on photothermal effects in the Mid-Infrared Spectral Region.
Leopold has joined the CAVS group in February 2023. During his MSc, he focussed on analytical chemistry, theoretical chemistry, and high-performance computing. He brings three years of experience working as a software developer, having created GUIs, DAQ systems, and control firmware for IR spectrometers at his previous company.
At CAVS, he will start a PhD and continue to work on IR spectroscopy and data science to develop new ways of non-destructive chemical sensing and process control.

Bernhard Lendl conducts research in the field of molecular spectroscopy with a focus on infrared and Raman spectroscopy. For his innovative work, he has now been awarded the “Thought Leader Award”, a prize for trailblazing science influencers.
Agilent’s criteria for awarding this prize are the international visibility and reputation of the award candidate, as well as groundbreaking preliminary work on an emerging topic.
